Want to get the latest
word on search engine optimisation, from the people who know the business best?
There are thousands of SEO blogs and news sites out there, some of them more
easy to read and interpret than others. When web marketing experts compare and
contrast new techniques, and discuss the efficacy of various maneuvers amongst
themselves, it can be hard to sort through all the jargon. However, there are a
few user friendly sites out there that can show you either how to DIY parts of
your search engine optimisation campaign, or choose the right professionals to
do the job for you.
For a randomised approach to finding up to
date information, try searching through Google News. If you simply type 'SEO'
into the search bar and sort your results by date, you'll find a range of
articles from tips and tricks through to algorithm update rumours &
notifications. These are literally up to the minute publications, although not
all of them are as practical and helpful as you may hope. To sort through press
releases and promotional 'news', add '-PR' (as in, minus public relations) to
your search term. If you're looking specifically for tips, add that to your
search; same goes for other specialist information, such as keyword theory, and
ideas on how to respond to updates.
For more targeted
advice and guides, including step by step do-it-yourself instructions and
overviews of the optimisation process, just do a regular search. To make sure
you're getting the most credible information, look for online publications with
links to professional profiles, as well as
range of multimedia content- not just written content, which can get
boring and can be unhelpful if not perfectly crafted. If you prefer to learn
visually, there are also tutorial videos and info bites on YouTube, where most
of the world's leading providers regularly upload to. The absolute most
valuable of these channels is the official Google channel, where executives and
technicians make official statements and respond to popular user questions (go
to youtube.com/user/Google to see all the videos on the channel).
The only things you need to be wary of are
sales pitches disguised as information articles. Often published within the
official websites of SEO providers, these are valid ways for experts to
demonstrate their skills and knowledge, but can be quite biased overall. If
you're unsure about a particular statement, copy and paste the key words from
the thesis of the article into a search, to see if it's backed up elsewhere
online.
